Monday 9th February 2009:
Repcast chance of racing has climbed a notch or two to about 40% but it's
still marginal. After Sunday's hot dry conditions, we might see a slight
change. Those fickle SW winds of Sunday afternoon swing all the way around
to NNE at about 8-12 knots in the morning and the log at the top of the
mast might show about 12-16 knots with the occasional gust over 18 knots
in the afternoon which will be accompanied by the odd sprinkle of rain as
that cloud cover might bring the occasional shower sweeping through the
course. This might mean that the afterguard will want to keep a good eye
out for the pressure on the outside of the squally rain but balance off
the shift in direction that goes with the extra bit of pressure on the
outside of the showers.
Low tide is around 1400
hours so the tide will be ebbing in the afternoon and with this wind level
is another choice the "brains trust" are going to have their work cut out
for them -- especially since it's going to be really warm 24+ degrees
Celsius and humid with the rain showers -- it's going to resemble a sauna
in the cockpit let alone those guys working in the sewers.
Tuesday 10th February 2009:
Repcast chance of racing is about 30% with fickle westerlies -- starting
WSW and very light in the morning at about 4 knots and building to 11
knots. It's going to be hot about 25+ degrees and really humid with clear
overhead conditions
Wednesday 11th February 2009:
Repcast chance of racing is about 30% with fickle westerlies -- starting
NW and very light in the morning at about 4 knots and pretty much that for
the rest of the day. Temperature will peak for week at 26+ degrees and
the cloud cover beginning to thicken and a chance of rain in the evening.
Thursday 12th February 2009:
Repcast chance of racing is about 70% -- rain and lots of it... I mean
heavy rain. It will be northerly 16 knots and will swing to NW and will
build to 22 knots maybe more by mid afternoon. Race organizers might want
to get the boats in early though because there the choppy waves in the
afternoon are going to intensify in the evening especially once the tide
turns around 4.30pm in the afternoon - oh and those comments about Monday
and squally conditions in the harbor, that goes for Thursday as well.
Expect crews and gear to get pushed today.
Friday 13th February 2009:
Wind is from Southern quarter 14-16 knots in the morning -- easing to 10
knots SSE in the afternoon but swinging to due east 28 knots by nightfall
