Thursday 5th February
2009 Updated:
Updated Forecast - wind will only be about 12-14 knots from due E in the
afternoon - initially about 18-21 knots from SE in the morning. It will
continue to be warm (especially after a very warm evening last night here
in Auckland) - calm seas with overhead clouds, high tide late in the
afternoon (1531 hours) and a high of 23 degrees today. There will be a
reasonable chance of some misty drizzle out there on the harbor in the
afternoon. Repcast estimate of chances of racing today around 60%
Friday 6th February 2009
-- Waitangi Day National Holiday:
Updated Forecast - breezy morning sees 22-24 knots gusting to 26 knots
from due East in the morning and a few more shorty choppy wind vs tide
waves up to 2 foot high in the Waitemata Harbor. Overhead conditions will
clear to a high of around 24 degrees so warm out. The breeze will ease a
notch to about 20-23 knots in the afternoon and will begin to ease and
swing around to SE and high tide is about 1640 hours. Repcast chance of
racing about 75%.
Saturday 7th February
2009:
Friday night's swing to the SE quarter continues and we see SSE of 8-11
knots initially. Another day bright as a button -- preluding a bunch of
hot days to come 24-25 degrees will be the high each day thru to Tuesday
so hopefully the racing will step up in intensity as we get to the pointy
end of proceedings - although the winds look patchy and shifty for the
next few days. The wind is back to the prevailing SW of 12-16 knots but
may head SSW later in the day but will be very shifty with the effect of
the land masses around and possibility of a seabreeze - local knowledge
could be handy but most of the sailors are locals regardless of the
flags. High Tide on the Waitemata will be around 1749 hrs today and seas
will be calm. Repcast chance of racing about 65%.
Sunday 8th February 2009:
Dejavu - winds from due southerly quarter initially of 8-11 knots in the
morning - another hot day and we'll see the wind swing about to SW but may
be fickle with the hot conditions with a high of 24 degrees - again
chances of racing are about 65% although organizers will be keen to
showcase the series on Sat/Sun to as many as possible for public and
visitors especially if the Monday Repcast is accurate.
Monday 9th February 2009:
Repcast chance of racing is about 20% - utterly becalmed with a high of 25
degrees with the sparkling Waitemata Harbour looking like a sheet of green
and blue glass. Be nice to be at Takapuna Beach catching a tan or
visiting Auckland's many interesting and varied attractions but for the
last day of RR2 it will be a frustrating day of waiting, waiting and
waiting...
Tuesday 9th February
2009:
Unfortunately the early forecast for the alternate day of Tuesday is much
the same as Monday!
