This is Luna Rossa's only AC72.  The basic platform and wing were designed with Emirates Team New Zealand.  Luna Rossa was a late entry to the event, and this arrangement, permitted under the rules with a deadline for the end of cooperation, allowed them to enter the 2013 regatta.  Luna Rossa has engineered their own sets of foils and other equipment.  The team is racing the Semi-Finals with an older wingsail while their latest version is being prepped for possible use in the Finals.

This is Artemis Racing's second AC72.  Their first boat, a non-foiling design, was wrecked in a capsize on May 9, 2013, killing team member Andrew Simpson.  The second boat underwent structural improvements before a planned May launch that delayed sailing until late July.  The Swedish boat also sports an advanced wing design.
